Kuwaiti Plane Shooed Away From Indian No-Fly Zone

They Have TFRs In India?

Given all the media attention surrounding planes that have accidentally meandered into no-fly zones over the past several years in the US... it's almost reassuring, in a way, to hear American pilots aren't the only ones that have to deal with the problem.

A Kuwait Airways plane accidentally strayed into a no-fly zone over the Indian capital of New Delhi shortly after takeoff Monday, according to the Indo-Asian News Service. The plane was turned away before it could overfly the residence of India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"The plane was immediately brought back to course. It has left for its original destination," said P.K. Chattopadhyay, joint director general of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

While all indicators point to this being an isolated -- and accidental -- incident, the situation did cause some tense moments for those onm the ground. Officials in India had received an earlier warning from the CIA about a possible hijack attempt on US-bound flights from India.

Sources in the government report an investigation has been launched into the incident.
