'Rookie' Jacksonville, FL Pilot Recognized For Service To Angel Flight Southeast

Robinn Singles Volunteers To Fly Passengers To Far-From-Home Medical Appointments

Sometimes a patient’s best hope for a cure is from medical experts hundreds of miles away. When travel to lifesaving treatment is too much of a burden due to financial or physical constraints, volunteers like Robinn Singles come to the rescue.

Singles is a volunteer pilot with Angel Flight Southeast. The Jacksonville, FL resident donates his time, his Beechcraft airplane and fuel to fly patients to far-from-home medical appointments.

An experienced commercial pilot, Singles joined the Angel Flight Southeast network of more than 700 pilots who volunteer to fly more than 2,500 missions annually in August 2017. His first mission as an Angel Flight Southeast volunteer was to fly humanitarian supplies to hurricane victims in the Florida Keys.

Singles is one of three pilots being recognized as “Rookie Pilot of the Year” honorees at the “Dr. Franklin G. Norris Family Foundation Pilot of the Year Awards Gala 2018.” They will be honored on Friday, April 13, 2018 at the event which will be held at the River Ranch Resort and airport (2RR) in River Ranch, FL.

One of the three will be named “Rookie Pilot of the Year,” the highest honor for Angel Flight Southeast pilots. The other two “Rookie Pilot of the Year” honorees are:

Jorge Giovannini who joined Angel Flight Southeast in June 2017 and flies out of Pompano Beach Airpark.

Jordan Ellington joined in October 2017 initially to assist with Angel Flight Southeast’s humanitarian aid missions to the Caribbean. Ellington, who is based in New York, flew his Piper to deliver supplies to Puerto Rico and to transport patients who needed critical medical care off the island.

“Our Angel Flight Southeast pilots may sign up to fly a passenger to a medical appointment any day of the week. Some flights require multiple legs and these volunteers play an important role in coordinating the trips with precise timing so their passengers arrive safely and on time,” said Steve Purello, CEO of Angel Flight Southeast which is based in Leesburg, Florida. “The natural disasters that plagued our region last year provided another opportunity for our pilots to demonstrate their courage and compassion. We were humbled by the outpouring of generosity that came from our dedicated network of volunteers.”
