Safran Helicopter Engines, Aura Aero Sign MOU for Turbo-Generators

19-Seater Regional Aircraft will See Joint Development of "Disruptive Propulsive Architectures"

Aura Aero signed a memorandum of understanding with Safran Helicopter Engines, with both partners joining hands on electric generators that regulate pressure, power, and electric tension throughout the ERA aircraft.

The Electric Regional Aircraft (or ERA in current nomenclature), is a prospective 19-seat, sustainable commuter aimed at stealing market share from more established, point-to-point turboprops. A turbo-generator for the ERA will combine a gas turbine with "one or several" electric generators to help power all the non-propulsion systems essential to flight. The general design is already developed in other parts of the Safran catalog, with several turbo-generators bench-tested at different levels of power.

“Becoming a partner of AURA AERO is great news for Safran Helicopter Engines. We share the same will to decarbonize air transport and we are ready to bring them our expertise in hybrid-electric propulsion, developed through many tests”, said Florent Chauvancy, Head of Sales at Safran Helicopter Engines.

Jérémy Caussade, CEO of AURA AERO, was very complimentary of Safran's skill. “We are very excited for Safran Helicopters to join us by bringing their expertise and their relevant eye to this project.”
