Pax Bounced, Two Aircraft Searched After Bomb Threats

Both Targeted American Airlines

Two American Airlines flights -- one from Philadelphia and one from Boston -- were grounded and searched Wednesday. In each instance, passengers were removed from the aircraft before the flight was allowed to continue.

The reason? A telephoned bomb threat mentioning both flights.

Authorities at Philadelphia International Airport pulled all 19 passengers off AAL Flight 4543 bound for Boston. All were rescreened. But before the flight was reboarded, it was cancelled.

Not long afterward, authorities at Boston's Logan International ordered 159 passengers off of Flight 156 bound for London's Heathrow. Again, nothing was found. Passengers were allowed to reboard after they were screened for a second time and the flight proceeded to the UK.

Philadelphia Police said the bomb threat was phoned in to the Embassy Suites Hotel near the airport. Workers there then notified authorities.
