Turbine Otter Floatplane Down In Alaska

Three Fatally Injured, Seven Survive Officials Say

A turbine Otter floatplane went down in Alaska Tuesday resulting in the fatal injury of three people on board.

CNN reports that the Alaska Department of Public Safety said that the three who were fatally injured were Tony W. Degroot, 80, of Hanford, California; James P. Fletcher, 70, of Clovis, California; and James Specter, 69, of Shavertown, Pennsylvania.

The plane went down just north of the Iliamna Airport near Eastwind Lake. Alaska Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Edward said that five of the survivors were transported to a hospital in Anchorage, while two were treated at the scene.

CBS News reports that the plane belonged to Rainbow King Lodge of Lemoore, CA. It was identified as a de Havilland DHC-3 Turbine Otter on floats. The FAA's preliminary accident report indicates that the plane impacted trees and terrain about a mile from Iliamna.
