AeroSports Update: Cubs Vs Champs

In The Lee Bottom Flying Field Event Contest, Piper Cubs Win The First Round Of The Champs Vs Cubs Challenge

Lee Bottom Flying Field, an airport favored by grassroots aviators, will once again hold its fly-in in September. This time though there’s a special challenge. Within the usual event, will be a sub-event called CHAMPS VS CUBS. Designed to be a good natured challenge among old foes, the intent is to once and for all put an end to the question, “Which is better? The Champ or the Cub?” So far, Team Cub is ahead.

The Champs vs Cubs Challenge has three stages. The first was a t-shirt Challenge. The rules were simple. “Whichever team buys the most of their team’s t-shirts wins.” Team Cub, despite being behind for most of the contest, pulled it off at the end. The score was 134 to 126, Cubs over Champs.

The next two stages of the challenge will be held at Lee Bottom Flying Field during the event on September 18th through the 20th.

When the owners of Lee Bottom, a husband and wife team, were asked if they had a favorite in the challenge, Ginger Davidson said, “I have a Cub and Rich has a Champ. It could get rough around here until it’s over.”

While we at ANN have decided not to take sides in this contest, one of our staff noted, “It’s obvious that Rich prefers comfort, performance, and good visibility over yellow paint.” We’re not sure, but those sound like fighting words.
