ForeFlight Introduces Version 8.2

Latest Release Includes More Map Data, New Safety Alerts

The software engineers at ForeFlight have been busy, and the result is the company's latest update with more aeronautical map data, new safety alerts, and other features in version 8.2.

More of the information you need to navigate safely is now available in ForeFlight's global, data-driven Aeronautical Maps layer. Enhancements include altitude markers for Class B, C, and D airspace, ARTCC frequency stamps, Mode C rings, and more.

ForeFlight on the web delivers an exceptional planning experience – combining Aeronautical Maps and the same newly rebuilt map engine recently released in ForeFlight Mobile. All of your work syncs instantly from the web to mobile, giving you flexibility to plan on your desktop and in the cockpit.

A new Sink Rate alert provides visual and auditory warnings when your vertical speed exceeds a critical amount. The 500’ AGL Alert triggers when you descend through 500’ AGL. Runway Proximity Advisor now includes a length-remaining callout that lets you know how many feet of runway you have when you are lined up for takeoff – a helpful cross-check that you are lined up on the correct runway.

The color-coded Currency Summaries in ForeFlight Logbook are an excellent way to stay on top of flight currency requirements, certificate expiration dates, or flying goals. To help ensure that your flight currency tracking is accurate, Logbook will now highlight in orange any missing details when you add an aircraft to a flight entry.

If you fly for charity or an operator that uses a call sign, you can now enter that information into your flight plan form. To enable the Call Sign field, go to More > Settings > File & Brief and tap Enable Call Sign Field. And you can now prepare for the FAA's discontinuation of the domestic flight plan form in 2017. ForeFlight already supports the ICAO format and this video will help you with the transition.

The new version also offers full support for Garmin’s Flight Stream 510 enables ForeFlight to receive via Bluetooth GPS data, ADS-B weather and traffic, and attitude data, as well as two-way flight plan transfer between ForeFlight and GTN series navigators.

And access high-quality satellite aviation weather in ForeFlight Mobile via the SXAR1, SiriusXM’s portable weather receiver and GPS. Get coast-to-coast coverage, with no minimum altitude or line-of-sight restrictions.
