As If The Strike Wasn't Enough...

BA ERJ-145 Skids Off Runway In Germany

Still reeling from a wildcat strike that cost more than $17 million a day, British Airways Sunday had another fine mess to deal with. An Embraer ERJ-145 ran off the end of the runway in Hanover Germany.

Of the 45 passengers on board the regional jet, a BA spokeswoman told the BBC, all were "generally OK in terms of the mood, although I am sure some of them would have been shocked."

It happened at 1705 local time, as the aircraft from Birmingham, England, was landing. The regional jet simply ran off the end of the runway and its wheels sank deep into the mud. It was reportedly raining heavily at the time.

"After the aircraft (file photo of type, above) landed they carried out a number of checks, as is standard procedure, to check there was no damage to the aircraft, and to get an idea of what happened," the unnamed spokeswoman told the BBC. "We have given customers the choice of hotel accommodation if they need it or want it and we are also offering to fly them back to Birmingham if they want to do that."
