The Commemorative Air Force Will Present A Special Tribute To The Tuskegee Airmen At Sun ‘n Fun 2016.
While Sun ‘n Fun is about all the exciting aspects of aviation, it’s also about our aviation legacy. We found this information on the Sun ‘n Fun website about their plan to work with the CAF to pay tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen.
In cities across the U.S., vintage military aircraft rest quietly in museums where school children and tourists admire them, take their pictures and leave them behind closed doors at the end of each day. But at this year’s SUN ‘n FUN, the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) will blast aviation history out of the museum for visitors to learn from and be inspired by, up close and personal!
The CAF is bringing two unique assets to help tell the inspirational story of the Tuskegee Airmen, America’s first black military pilots and their support personnel. Texas Raiders, a fully restored B-17G Flying Fortress, will be appearing along with the CAF Red Tail Squadron’s RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit, a mobile theater featuring an original film about the Tuskegee Airmen. This duo share an important story that honors the history and legacy of these WWII aviators, and serve as an inspiration to current generations to RISE ABOVE obstacles in their own lives. The CAF Dixie Wing’s P-51D Red Nose will also be on site with the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit for view on static display April 5-8.
Visitors can tour the cockpit of the Flying Fortress and step inside a world of living history. Admission for this special appearance is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and $20 for a family of up to five members. These fees are separate from those for Sun ‘n Fun admission.
Entrance is free to the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit 53’ mobile panoramic theater. All ages are welcome to enjoy this immersive and exciting experience to learn about the Tuskegee Airmen.
The CAF will host a meet-and-greet with original Tuskegee Airmen and a WWII B-17 aviator. These special guests will share how the unique relationship between the bombers and the Tuskegee Airmen ensured the success of critical bombing missions.
