University of Alabama in Huntsville Home To PoWeR Innovations

Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne
celebrated the opening of the new PoWeR Innovations Research
facility on the campus of University of Alabama in Huntsville
on December 9th. The facility is part of a collaborative effort
designed to develop new technologies and business strategies for
both the company and the university.
"We believe that combining Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne's
capabilities and experience with the curriculum, creativity and
talent at the University of Alabama in Huntsville will enable us to
create new technologies and expand into new business areas," said
Jim Maser, president, Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne. "We are
optimistic this collaboration will serve as a model for other
companies."
Through the partnership, the University of Alabama in
Huntsville will provide offices, laboratories and support so Pratt
& Whitney Rocketdyne personnel can collaborate on planning,
research and development activities. The university will also
provide access to its academic expertise to collaborate in
development of academic and business opportunities between both
parties. In return, Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne will provide
access to its technical and business personnel co-located at the
university. Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne will help develop new
technologies of interest to both parties.
Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne is a provider of propulsion,
power, energy and innovative system solutions used in a wide
variety of government and commercial applications, including the
main engines for the space shuttle, Atlas and Delta launch
vehicles, missile defense systems and advanced hypersonic
engines.
