Skyborne Academy Partners with Purdue University

Online Degree Program Offers Flexibility and Savings

Skyborne Airline Academy, the Part 141 flight school with campuses in Vero Beach, Florida and Gloucestershire, U.K., is partnering with Purdue University Global to offer its students online learning and flight training options by which to earn bachelor’s degrees in professional flight.

The accelerated online program—which can be completed in less than three years—allows Skyborne enrollees to work full-time as flight instructors while earning credits toward their Purdue Global degrees. What’s more, the program stands to save Skyborne students as much as $28,400 in tuition and ancillary expenses. To enroll in the accelerated online program, Skyborne trainees must hold a Private Pilot Certificate (PPL), a first-class medical certificate, and either a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate.

Skyborne managing director Captain Ed Davidson states: “Our partnership with Purdue Global, part of the Purdue University system that includes its prestigious School of Engineering and Polytechnic Institute, provides a unique opportunity for Skyborne pilots to earn a degree in professional flight. Legendary aviators like Amelia Earhart, Neil Armstrong and Sully Sullenberger once called Purdue University their home.” Captain Davidson adds: “Having a bachelor’s degree in addition to an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate broadens the range of airline prospects for pilots at the beginning of their careers. The Purdue Global degree program supports our mission to place our graduates in the most advantageous position possible for embarking on the path to becoming an airline pilot.”

Purdue Global professional flight development specialist Andrew Rachmell asserts: “We are looking forward to welcoming Skyborne trainees to our professional flight degree program. Through this partnership, students joining us from Skyborne will gain a strong command of industry knowledge while maintaining the flexibility to further their flight training. Introducing a faster and more affordable option of higher education for Skyborne’s trainees only adds to the exceptional standard of training and career support the academy offers.”

The next program start date for the Purdue Global professional flight degree is 19 October 2022.
