Say, Did You Ever Get That Cockpit Door Mod?

If Not, Cancel The Trip To Israel

Israel's Ministry of Transportation says, come October 31, 2003, if your commercial aircraft cockpit door hasn't been modified to make it bulletproof, you won't be allowed to land in or even overfly the Jewish State. The Israeli move is similar to one announced recently by the United States. The American decision also takes effect on October 31st (Halloween... just had to mention it).

Transport Ministry spokesman Avner Ovadiah said the ban would also apply to foreign airliners using Israeli airspace en route to other destinations. Israel's main airport, Ben-Gurion, is a destination for more than two dozen airlines. Ovadiah said many carriers with older fleets, especially those from Eastern Europe, have yet to comply with the requirement.

Under new rules from the Civil Aviation Organization, every airliner must have reinforced cockpit doors by November 1.
