Navy Leap Frogs Perform At BMX World Cup

More Than 3,000 Riders And Fans Watched The Elite Skydiving Team

The U.S. Navy's Leap Frogs precision parachute team was among the highlights of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) BMX Supercross World Cup held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (OTC) in Chula Vista, California September 19.

The jump came during the races, which stopped while the Navy team performed. Two of the jumpers executed a high-speed diamond track formation, reaching approximately 180 miles per hour, while the rest of the team circled down trailing brightly colored smoke.

The last two jumpers touched down just as the National Anthem came to a close, which was sung by Musician 3rd Class Ashely Monroig from Navy Band Southwest.

The UCI sanctioned event drew cyclists from ages 6 to 60 from 29 nations. The Navy Times reports that after the jump, team members talked with riders and spectators alike about the experiences in the Navy. Navy recruiters also answered questions. "These athletes could be a great fit at Naval Special Warfare one day," said Chief Special Warfare Boat Operator (SWCC) J.C. Ledbetter, the senior enlisted member of the Leap Frogs. "It has obviously taken hard work and dedication for these riders to get to this competitive level. That's the kind of commitment it takes for guys to make it to the [special warfare] teams."
