Paper: Lufthansa To Buy Over 100 Planes

Several Makers Expected To Gain Orders

German air carrier Deutsche Lufthansa AG is reportedly close to emptying its bank account to buy a whole lotta jets... well over 100, in fact, spread out among several manufacturers.

Germany's die Welt am Sonntag says at the top of the rumored order sheet is Boeing... with unconfirmed reports for 30 747s, and 62 737s.

European planemaker Airbus is expected to profit from the move, as well... with orders for several A320s, and as many as 29 four-engine A340s.

Lufthansa head pilot Juergen Raps reportedly cited those numbers in an internal airline publication, obtained by the German paper.

Even regional jet makers Embraer and Bombardier could get a piece of the action. Orders are expected to go out beginning in the fall... and we imagine planemakers are waiting eagerly, for a potential windfall of new business.
