Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) has been a strong advocate of General Aviation throughout his Senate Career. In an interview with ANN CEO and Editor in Chief Jim Campbell, he said that the concept of ATC privatization is dead in the Senate.
Inhofe said that the FAA Authorization bill reported out of the Senate does not contain language that would allow for the privatization of the nation's air traffic control system, and now, in his estimation, House Transportation Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-PA) does not have the votes in the house to pass the legislation.
Inhofe said the GA community has been instrumental in helping to sway votes in Washington on several aviation-related issues. He said that when the aviation community is mobilized, and makes their voice heard with members of the Senate, they can be very effective.
Other topics discussed by Campbell and Senator Inhofe are AIP grants for GA airports, and the possibility of a Pilots Bill of Rights III… stay tuned.
