Bullet Holes Found In Jet Fuel Tanks Following Las Vegas Shooting

Damage Was Quickly Repaired, Sources Say

During the shooting rampage in Las Vegas on Sunday night, some rounds apparently found their way into jet fuel storage tanks at nearby McCarran International Airport, according to media reports.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal cites a source with knowledge of the situation who said that two bullet holes were discovered in one of the tanks that are across the street from the site where the music festival was being held. The tanks are about 1,100 feet from the concert site where Steven Paddock is believed to have killed 58 people and wounding nearly 500. According to a graphic published by the paper, the tanks are about 2,000 feet from the Mandalay Bay hotel where the shooter was located.

Only one of the rounds reportedly penetrated all the way into the tank. There was no explosion, and the damage was quickly repaired, according to the report.

McCarran spokesman Chris Jones said late Wednesday that fuel services at the airport were not compromised and everything was fully functional.

The tanks are under the control of Swissport, which was not available for comment. They are situated near the bases of several private aviation companies on property owned by McCarran International Airport.

The tanks hold fuel that is primarily used to fuel private aircraft, according to McCarran spokeswoman Christine Crews.

FBI agents inspected the tanks, and took measurements of the line of fire from the shooter's position at the hotel.
