Airborne 12.14.22: Electric Air Race, Last Pilatus PC-6, $pirit Pilot$

Also: Superior Cylinder Bulletin, Disney G1 Exhibit, Buttigieg Criticized, B-2 Bomber Emergency

The upcoming Pulitzer Electric Aircraft Race will continue the legacy of the longstanding Pulitzer air races first held in the 1920s, and is open to "piloted aerodynes of all types using zero-emission electric propulsion (e.g., fixed wing aeroplanes, helicopters, or multi-rotor eVTOL Advanced Air Mobility [AAM] vehicles)".

Given the current state of electric aircraft, the race will be held as a 4-day, VFR, day-only event, consisting of 1,000 nm of cross country flight. Pilatus has officially delivered the very last Porter PC-6, the firm's long-lived turboprop STOL aircraft. Throughout its long production life, the Porter became an international fixture in areas hard to access with traditional aircraft thanks to its light weight, robust manufacture, and tailwheel configuration. Spirit Airlines pilots may have an agreement on the way, according to the negotiations committee from the Air Line Pilots Association. The tentative agreement with Spirit Airlines lays out an economic gain of $463 million over the next 2 years, with zero concessions. The deal should grant Spirit pilots a pay boost to the tune of 27%. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
