Boyer, Poberezny Video Tape 'Airport Watch' Segments

Aviation United

EAA President Tom Poberezny was joined by Phil Boyer, president of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh on Friday to videotape segments to be included in the “AOPA Airport Watch” video being distributed to EAA Chapters nationwide.
Both Poberezny and Boyer emphasized the vital role pilots play in helping enhance security at their local airports. They asked pilots to be particularly vigilant of their surroundings when they are at the airport and report anything unusual. They also reiterated the need to practice the highest levels of responsibility and airmanship in their own flight planning and piloting skills.

“It takes all of us working together to ensure our flying freedoms are maintained in the future,” Poberezny said. “Since 9/11, there has been a lot of concern in government about general aviation airport security. This program is one of the important ways that pilots can participate in showing general aviation is an asset, not a threat.
“It’s also why EAA continues working hard, often in concert with groups such as AOPA, to make sure any necessary security considerations do not hamper the ability for pilots to enjoy the freedom of flight.”

The Airport Watch video will be distributed to EAA Chapters along with information for members on how to fully participate in the program.
