Parrot Drones Plans Expansion Of Commercial Business

Hopes To Return To Profitability By Producing More Professional-Use Aircraft

With the consumer drone market being dominated by a few big players, notably DJI, Parrot is looking to the commercial drone industry to return the company to profitability by 2018.

Reuters reports that Parrot CFO Gilles Labossiere said in an interview that commercial drones should have a gross profit margin of at least 50 to 60 percent, where consumer drones have a margin of not more than 35 percent.

Based on that analysis, Labossiere said that the company would not be competing for market share, but rather "seeking to be a strong number two in the drone industry and we will focus on the segments that will allow us to be profitable."

Parrot is not giving up entirely on the consumer drone market. While the company's results in 2016 were disappointing, it expects to see a strong rebound in the first half of this year based on product development and increased online sales.
