New Florida Airport Raises Concerns About Some GA Businesses

Airport ED Says Some Are Flying Without Meeting Safety Requirements

The Executive Director of the new Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport in Bay County says some of the GA businesses there may be operating without meeting safety requirements or necessary contracts.

ED Randy Curtis did not name specific businesses, but said that some had not given proof on insurance, and that it was "not fair" for them to undercut Sheltair, which is the primary FBO at the airport. He told television station WMBB that the airport board will be voting on new safety standards at its next meeting.

Curtis said there were people literally operating out of the back of a pickup truck at the airport, which hurt the business of the FBO which has made a significant investment in facilities there. He says the new standards will help the airport get a better handle on those operations.
