The Organization, LadiesLove Taildraggers, Is Looking To Fund A Taildragger Scholarship
Judy Birchler wears the Captain's Stripes in an organization known as LadiesLove Taildragger’s. She sent out a notice that their organization is putting together a scholarship fund to aid other women in enjoying the skills involved in flying airplanes with a little wheel on the back. We at ANN think this is a great idea, so here’s a little history about the organization and what it is they’re trying to achieve.
The organization has only been around for a few years but their membership numbers are quickly growing. The group was started by Judy Birchler of Indianapolis, IN with the purpose of meeting and connecting other like-minded ladies who love to fly taildraggers.
Birchler says, "I've always been passionate about flying taildraggers but I just couldn't seem to find other ladies in my area who felt like I did. I knew I couldn't be the only woman around tagging along with the taildragger guys, flying to breakfast or lunch and to local fly-ins. I loved to fly with them but always wished I knew other taildragging gals to invite."
The Mission Statement of LadiesLoveTaildraggers isn't complicated and it reads as follows: "To encourage women everywhere to have fun flying taildraggers".
Judy says their organization is trying hard to raise $4,500. She says they would love to award four flying scholarships in 2017 to women pilots anxious to increase their flying skills. The goal is to make scholarship awards to:
- Two female Pilots tailwheel endorsements
- Two female tailwheel pilots to attend their Stick and Rudder Master Classes
Judy tells us these may be women who would struggle financially to pay for the additional training but, the candidates selected will be well deserving, lady pilots, who are passionate about flying.
The links listed below will give you more information about the organization and about the fundraising drive.
