Airborne 06.21.16: Solar Impulse 2, RAF Aerobatics Canceled, O&N Aircraft Closes

Also: Aero-Calendar, Pilot Weather, TSA, Gulfstream G500, Sikorsky S-92, Delta Private Jets/Gogo

The Solar Impulse 2 took off early Monday morning from Kennedy Airport in New York to attempt the crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in its continuing mission to prove that an efficient energy future is possible.

The solar powered airplane of Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg, capable of flying day and night with no fossil fuel, is expected to land at the Seville Airport in Spain on June 23. The flight, that should take four days and four nights non-stop, depending on weather conditions, is one of the most challenging legs of the Round-The-World Solar Flight. The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows, will be flying at the Farnborough International Airshow and engaging with both adults and young people on all three days that are open to the general public. However, it has been determined that the high speed and dynamic nature of the traditional Red Arrows' aerial display is no longer appropriate due to the large amounts of local housing, business areas and major transport links underneath the planned airshow area. O&N Aircraft Modifications in Factoryville, Pennsylvania has closed its doors following the retirement of Myron and Diane Olson. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
