Airborne 10.23.20: P2010 TDI Cert, OSIRIS-REx, MultiGP Championships

Also: F-22's Intercept Russians, WAI Scholarships, Honeywell-Pipistrel, Dufour Demo's eVTOL

TECNAM has received a Type Certificate for the P2010 TDI from EASA. The P2010 TDI certification adds the Diesel/JetA1 engine to the family of Avgas and Mogas-powered TECNAM aircraft. The P2010 airframe, with its composite fuselage design and the all-metal wing and stabilator, has proven to be a good match for the Diesel engine. The "P Twenty-Ten" now offers the flexibility offered by the use of Diesel/JetA1 fuel and the low operating costs provided by the dual FADEC-controlled Continental engine. NASA’s OSIRIS-REx spacecraft unfurled its robotic arm Tuesday, and in a first for the agency, briefly touched an asteroid to collect dust and pebbles from the surface for delivery to Earth in 2023. This well-preserved, ancient asteroid, known as Bennu, is currently more than 200 million miles from Earth. Benn

ANN's Daily Aero-Term (10.24.20): VFR Conditions

VFR Conditions Weather conditions equal to or better than the minimum for flight under visual flight rules. The term may be used as an ATC clearance/instruction only when: a. An IFR aircraft requests a climb/descent in VFR conditions. b. The clearance will result in noise abatement benefits where part of the IFR departure route does not conform to an FAA approved noise abatement route or altitude. c. A pilot has requested a practice instrument approach and is not on an IFR flight plan. Note: All pilots receiving this authorization must comply with the VFR visibility and distance from cloud criteria in 14 CFR Part 91.
