X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle Embarks on Seventh Mission

Seventh Flight Follows Record-Breaking 908-Day Sixth Mission

The X-37B autonomous spaceplane has launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket, marking the beginning of its seventh mission. "The X-37B government and Boeing teams have worked together to produce a more responsive, flexible, and adaptive experimentation platform," said William D. Bailey, Director, Department of the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office. "The work they've done to streamline processes and adapt evolving technologies will help our nation learn a tremendous amount about operating in and returning from a space environment."

Successful Rescue of Barlovento Saves All Aboard in 2021 Incident

Aviation Survival Technician Second Class Spencer T. Manson will be awarded with the Distinguished Flying Cross Award, recognizing his actions for a rescue action in 2021. The incident occurred 70 miles offshore from the California–Oregon border, on a sinking 79-foot schooner and its imperiled crew of six. Manson was able to rescue the whole lot of them, netting him the "highest honor that can be achieved in aviation".

Sheriff's Aircraft Subject of Investigation

Noel's Station As Sheriff Lasted From 2015 to 2022

Former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel's aircraft is now the subject of a seizure authorization due to its murky financing. Noel's 1958 Cessna 172 gained the interest of investigators when they began to suspect it had been purchased with volunteer firefighter funding but used as a personal plane. The aircraft was listed to the Utica Township Firefighter Association. Noel's station as sheriff lasted from 2015 to 2022, with previous stints as the founder of New Chapel Fire and chief of Utica Fire. An affidavit filed by Indiana State Police described their thought process in suspecting the aircraft's personal use via a few tips and inferences.

NTSB Prelim: Beech A36

Connecting Rod Was Found Outside Of The Crankcase When The Engine Cowling Was Removed

On December 10, 2023, about 1555 mountain standard time, a Beechcraft A36, N4171S, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Topock, Arizona. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. According to a family member the pilot was flying from Sun Valley Airport (A20), Bullhead City, Arizona to pick up a passenger from Prescott Regional Airport – Ernest A. The color and type of light transmitted can be used to approve or disapprove anticipated pilot actions where radio communication is not available.
