Historic WWII Torpedo Bomber Flying Again

Under the deft touch and in accordance with the fine air-sense of CAF Colonel Bill Shepard, the Commemorative Air Force’s Rocky Mountain Wing’s Grumman TBM-3 309 delighted attendees at the recent Grand Junction Airshow. The Grumman TBF Avenger—specimens manufactured under license by General Motors were registered TBM—is an American World War II-era torpedo bomber developed initially for the United States Navy and Marine Corps, but eventually fielded by several Allied air and naval aviation services.

Angel Flight West Completes 100,000th Mission

The First Rule of Angel Flight …

Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Santa Monica, California, Angel Flight West in a nonprofit organization passionately and protractedly about the mission of providing free emergency medical transportation to patients in need of such. On 30 October 2023, Angel Flight West marked its one-hundred-thousandth mission by transporting cancer survivor and liver transplant recipient Luis Peña, 12, and his mother, Maria Pérez, whose trip home was piloted by actor and Tyler Durden alter-ego Edward Norton.

New Drone Variant to Scale Delivery Operations

The M2, a quad-copter delivery drone designed, developed, and produced by Mountain View, California-based Matternet, has been granted Federal Aviation Administration approval for an amendment to its UAS Type Certification. Subject approval underscores the efficacy of the hardware and software improvements Matternet has made to the platform and heralds the broadening of the machine’s utility.

Callum Wallace Pushes for Home Suite Hope

Callum Wallace, a civilian pilot and Engel & Völkers Oakville advisor, made history as the fourth Canadian to make a successful solo circumnavigation of the Earth in a small aircraft. The incredible journey, known as Flight for Hope, culminated in October 2023 when Wallace touched down at Burlington Executive Airport. Flight for Hope, a daring round-the-world expedition in a small single-engine aircraft, was undertaken by Callum Wallace to support the Burlington-based charity Home Suite Hope.

Founded in 2021 by serial entrepreneur David Mayman and headquartered in New York City, Mayman Aerospace is the designer and manufacturer of a so-called Air Utility Vehicle (AUV) dubbed Speeder. Delaware State Police Acquire Two Bell 429 Global Rangers

New Helicopters to Support Medevac and SAR Missions

Bell Textron Inc. and the Delaware State Police (DSP) have entered into an agreement by which the latter will acquire two Bell 429 Global Ranger light twin-engine helicopters. In addition to law enforcement operations, the aircraft will be plied to emergency medical and search-and-rescue missions.

Following a nationwide search, Melissa Cooper has been named Director of Aviation for the City of Kansas City. Cooper, the veteran of 25-years in the aviation industry’s trenches, is the first woman to fill the aforementioned role. In December 2021, she was promoted to Deputy Director of Aviation over Properties & Commercial Development, a position in which she helped launch Kansas City International Airport’s (MCI) new $1.5-billion terminal.

… Michigan Man Arrested

A 52-year-old Michigan man has been arrested for allegedly shining a laser pointer at the pilot of an in-flight Michigan State Police helicopter. The incident occurred on the night of Saturday 28 October 2023 in the vicinity of Detroit—glimmering jewel of the Great Lakes region and pride of all Michiganians. The suspect was filmed in the act of twice lasing the patrol helicopter with a green laser pointer before ducking into a bar. The helicopter’s pilot alerted police personnel, whom he directed to the Rosa Parks Boulevard bar into which the perpetrator had fled.

The Airplane Was Flying At 211 KCAS As It Descended 13,504 Ft/Min With A 56° Right-Wing-Down Roll Angle

On June 14, 2023, about 0903 central daylight time, a Mooney M20R airplane, N1025C, was destroyed during an accident near Watertown, Wisconsin. The pilot and passenger were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 personal flight. The pilot filed an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan from Watertown Municipal Airport (RYV), Watertown, Wisconsin, direct to Manitowish Waters Airport (D25), Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, with an enroute cruise altitude of 8,000 ft mean sea level (msl). Under The Hood Indicates that the pilot is using a hood to restrict visibility outside the cockpit while simulating instrument flight. An appropriately rated pilot is required in the other control seat while this operation is being conducted.
