Some more good news on the airshow front... The 2021 Wings Over North Georgia Drive-In Air Show will take flight at the Russell Regional Airport in Rome, GA on Oct. 30-31. The event will feature headlining performances by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and U.S. Air Force ACC A-10 Thunderbolt II Demonstration Team. COVID-19 restrictions in 2020 forced JLC Air Show Management to create guidelines and a format that allowed for social distancing or face the risk of cancellation. The result was a drive-in format.

A Northrop Grumman Cygnus resupply spacecraft is on its way to the International Space Station with more than 8,200 pounds of science investigations and cargo after launching at 6:01 p.m. EDT Tuesday from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia. At 8:46 p.m., the spacecraft’s solar arrays successfully deployed to collect sunlight to power Cygnus on its journey to the station. Cygnus is scheduled to arrive at the space station around 6:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12.

NASA and Boeing continued work over the weekend and Monday morning on the company’s CST-100 Starliner spacecraft service module propulsion system in preparation for the Orbital Flight Test-2 mission to the International Space Station. Work progressed to restore functionality to several valves in the Starliner propulsion system that did not open as designed during the launch countdown for the Aug. 3 launch attempt. While On Short Final Approach For Runway 27, The Engine Experienced A Total Loss Of Power

On July 15, 2021, at 0954 Pacific daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Vans RV-6, N468AC, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Riverside, California. The two pilots onboard were seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that while on short final approach for runway 27, the engine experienced a total loss of power. The airplane subsequently impacted terrain short of the runway and came to rest inverted.

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Bell Textron Inc. (type certificate previously held by Bell Helicopter Textron Inc.) Model 204B, 205A, 205A-1, 205B, and 212 helicopters. This AD was prompted by a fatal accident in which an outboard main rotor hub strap pin (pin) sheared off during flight, resulting in the main rotor blade and the main rotor head detaching from the helicopter. This AD requires removing the pins from service before further flight and prohibits installing them on any helicopter. The FAA previously sent an emergency AD to all known U.S. owners and operators of these helicopters and is now issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.
