NBAA Publishes First Group of Sustainability Accreditations

Gulfstream and Dow Aviation Sweep with All 4 Award Types Out the Gate

The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) announced its inaugural group of business aviation entities to obtain its Sustainable Flight Department Accreditation.

The new NBAA program includes 4 independent accreditations, recognizing sustainability in flight, ground support, operations and infrastructure. The program was aimed at addressing the wide variety of business operations seen throughout the industry, allowing every business to find a niche to motivate their change for the better. With the NBAA backing the development, operators can now point to a trustworthy, reliable, and somewhat widespread industry standard standard of measure sustainable flight operations. They hope that it will be a lighthouse for management, a way "to promote a culture of sustainability by encouraging companies to think and act critically, and to implement as many sustainability strategies as possible."

The first group of awardees include:

  • American Express Corporate Aviation: Flight, Operations
  • The Boeing Company, Executive Flight Operations: Flight
  • Coca-Cola Company: Flight
  • Cox Aviation LLC: Flight
  • Dell Technologies Corporate Aviation: Flight
  • Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company: Operations

Going above and beyond, a pair of companies managed to obtain all 4 flavors of sustainability accreditation - Dow Aviation and Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation. They now can boast of accreditation in Flight, Operations, Ground Support, and Infrastructure. The NBAA also accredited several other entities that preferred to remain anonymous.

“Through programs such as NBAA’s Sustainable Flight Department Accreditation Program, business aviation is taking concrete, measurable steps to address climate change,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We commend the companies who have worked hard to achieve this accreditation and strive to create a more sustainable future for business aviation.”
