Hurricane(s) Force Florida Air Show Delay

The Ft. Myers Beach Air Show's annual event scheduled for October 16th and 17th 2004 has been rescheduled to May 13th and 14th 2005, due to the effects of Hurricane Charley.

The Ft. Myers Beach Air Show was poised to take to the air this October for another year of amazing aerobatic performances along Ft. Myers Beach. The landfall of Hurricane Charley in Southwest Florida has forced the Board of Directors to evaluate the impact the event would have on emergency services, beach businesses, and residents, which led to the postponement of the event.

Emergency services are crucial part of the planning and execution of the Ft. Myers Beach Air Show. The weekend of events surrounding the air show are all based around locations on Ft. Myers Beach but, it takes the cooperation of emergency services from Lee, Charlotte, Collier Counties to plan and staff the event. Given the current conditions, the Board of Directors felt the additional load of the event on emergency services would be unjust.

Rescheduling the event to the spring of 2005 would provide beach business owners and residents the opportunity to rebuild their community. The Board of Directors felt that allowing such a large event to proceed in October would hamper the rebuilding and cleanup process on Ft. Myers Beach.
