300 More (Fewer) at Cessna

Part of Planned, Announced Reduction

By the end of this month, another 300 workers at Cessna's Wichita (KS) facility will be given their 60-day walking papers. That will bring to 900 the number of the predicted 1200 layoffs announced by Cessna in March of this year.

This announcement comes just three weeks after some 6000 temporarily laid off workers returned from a 7-week sabbatical.

"We expect 2003 and 2004 to be tough years," a company statement read, "but we are confident that Cessnans will continue to show their outstanding dedication, support and teamwork through these challenging times."

Cessna's Wichita-based population is currently 8300. Fourteen months ago, the count was 11,400. There are 300 additional headcount redundancies planned for this year.
