Santa Monica Airport Official Balks At JetSuiteX Plans

Says Airport Was Not Designed For Commercial Operations

The chair of the Santa Monica Airport Commission has told the City Council that allowing JetSuiteX to begin commercial operations at the airport would "set a dangerous precedent."

The Santa Monica Lookout reports that at a recent meeting, Santa Monica Airport Commission Chair Peter Donald said that the airport "was never intended to be used by this kind of commercial jet traffic. This is a dangerous intention into our community's life. It is unconscionable if allowed to proceed."

The council has not taken an official position on the proposal, according to the report. But Mayor Ted Winterer is on record as opposing the idea. He told local media that the city would do anything within its legal rights to stop JetSuiteX from beginning operations next week without permits.

The meeting occurred before the FAA dropped the bombshell that it would allow the airport to close in 12 years. It is not known how that decision will affect the plans of JetSuiteX.

A rally in opposition to JetSuiteX is planned near the airport on February 4.
