'We Can Feel the Excitement'

Poberezny's Opening Comments at AirVenture 2005

By Rose Dorcey

On day one of AirVenture Oshkosh 2005, Experimental Aircraft Association President Tom Poberezny told a horde of reporters, "We can feel the excitement. This year is very special."

Poberezny specifically referred to the Monday afternoon arrival of White Knight and SpaceShipOne. "With White Knight, you can see the airplane that made history. Oshkosh is one of the only places you will ever see it fly. You really want to be here for this special moment - it's history."

Under the shade of a large tree, Poberezny said that the change to a Monday start day has been popular with this year's attendees. "It fits the travel schedules very well of those who come, particularly for those who travel long distances."

Asked what brings throngs of people to Oshkosh for this annual aviation event, Poberezny said it was the people you see and talk to. "Whether you're a pilot, a builder, owner or enthusiast," Poberezny said, "It's a great family activity."

"This should be one of the best conventions ever," said Poberezny. "This is the week to come."
