North Jersey Ninety-Nines Getting Ready For Fundraiser
The North Jersey Chapter
of the Ninety-Nines’ annual Poker Run gets off the ground at
10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14 (weather date May 15.) Participating
airports in this year’s $15-a-hand fund-raiser are: Greenwood
Lake (4N1), Blairstown (1N7) , Sullivan County (MSV), Sky Acres
(44N) and Orange County (MGJ), the terminus. (The route is subject
to change due to unforeseen circumstances.)
Starting at any of the participating airports, players (pilots
and their passengers) pick up their first card. At each successive
airport, they pick up an additional card. Pilots choose their own
routes, and fly to any or all airports. If airports are skipped,
poker hands can be completed at Orange County Airport, the terminus
– but participants must arrive at Orange County by 2:45
p.m.
The best hand wins first choice for a broad variety of prizes.
In past poker runs, prizes have included simulator time, rides in
unique airplanes, helicopter rides, aviation fuel, oil changes and
aerobatic lessons.
Proceeds from the event fund the North Jersey Chapter’s
aviation scholarships, safety and educational programs and
airmarkings. The Ninety-Nines is a non-profit international
organization of licensed women pilots from 35 countries. It
provides networking and scholarship opportunities for women and
aviation education in the community. In addition, the organization
preserves the unique history of women in aviation and promotes
world fellowship through flight.
