Happy Birthday To The CH-54 SkyCrane

Heavy-Lift Helo Flew For The First Time 50 Years Ago

Wednesday marked the 50th anniversary of the maiden flight of the CH-54, the military version of the S-64 Aircrane (“Aircrane”).

The Aircrane was designed, developed, and produced as a multi-purpose, heavy-lift aircraft. Over the years, the Aircrane has proved itself to be a highly versatile, reliable, and cost-effective workhorse in the construction, petroleum, and logging industries, and an essential fire-fighter all over the world. The Aircrane type certificate is owned by Erickson Air-Crane Incorporated, whose upgraded versions of the aircraft remain in production today.

Erickson owns and operates a fleet of 17 Aircranes, which are used to support a wide variety of government and commercial interests worldwide across a broad range of aerial services, including firefighting, timber harvesting, infrastructure construction, and crewing. Erickson also manufactures Aircranes and related components for sale to government and commercial customers and provides aftermarket support and maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for the Aircrane and other aircraft. Founded in 1971, Erickson is headquartered in Portland, Oregon with its principal manufacturing facility based in Central Point, Oregon.
