KLM Pilot Suffers Heart Attack While Taxiing For Takeoff

Was Preparing For Departure From Glasgow To Amsterdam

The pilot of a KLM airliner with 128 people on board suffered a heart attack while taxiing out for departure from Glasgow Airport late last week.

The BBC reports that the captain of the flight was resuscitated by the crew with the help of a passenger. The copilot of the plane taxied back to the gate, where the passengers were deplaned.

The pilot was taken to Golden Jubilee Hospital in Clydebank, where he was listed in stable condition, according to the report.

The flight was supposed to depart Glasgow for Amsterdam in the Netherlands at 1700 local time. But because of the medical emergency, the flight was cancelled and the passengers were rebooked on other flights.

In a statement, the airline said "During taxiing to the runway on this KLM flight to Amsterdam the captain became unwell and the staff treated him with the help of a passenger. He was taken to hospital where his condition is stable."
