Airborne 08.10.22: TL 3000 Sirius, Boeing PTO Forecast, SAF Controversies

Also: Flight Design Update, F/A-18E/F SLM, Flight Delays Worsen, SWA Attdt Hurt by Hard Ldg

In all the hub-bub of readying for Oshkosh, we missed the chance to publish our first impressions of a recent flight test series using the TL Sport Aircraft TL 3000 Sirius...

A slick high-wing tractor tri-gear produced by a Czech company, TL Ultralight. Using a variety of 912 and 914 series engines for power (with the 915 not far away), the 112-136 mph Sirius was a machine that, for some reason, we had overlooked to this point... to our regret now that ANN Editor-In-Chief Jim Campbell, has flown the bird -- and liked it-- a lot. Boeing has made public the results of its much-anticipated Pilot and Technician Outlook (PTO)—a work that peers twenty-years into the future of the aerospace industry and portends what profits or perils lie therein. Happily, Boeing’s forecast calls for tremendous growth throughout the commercial aviation sector. Between now and 2041, the airframer predicts the global commercial fleet will grow to north of 47,000 aircraft—nearly double its current size. To support such a multitude of machines, Boeing posits that air carriers will need hire 602,000 pilots, 610,000 maintenance technicians, and 899,000 cabin crew members. In yet another instance that speaks to widening gulf between the aims of America’s citizens and businesses and the federal lawmakers by whom they’re governed, U.S. fuel retailers are fighting the inclusion of a tax credit for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Democrats' massive $430-billion spending bill. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
