White House Withdraws Nomination Of Beverly Scott For NTSB

No Reason Given For Pulling Her From Consideration

The White House has rescinded the nomination of former Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority head Beverly Scott to serve on the NTSB.

Scott was nominated by President Barack Obama on July 30 to fill a term that ends December 31, 2019, but the nomination did not draw support from the state's two U.S. Senators; Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey. Both withheld judgement on the nomination.

Scott resigned as general manager of the the MBTA last winter after the authority had difficulty coping with an extremely cold and snowy winter in the northeast.

The Lowell Sun reports that when she was nominated, Sen. Warren (D) said that the nomination "is the decision of the president and this will be something that the Commerce Committee will weigh in on."

Senator Markey (D) was equally tepid. "Her nomination will come before the Commerce Committee and we will give her a full and fair hearing, and I think that the president has made a decision, and I think respect has to be given to the president, but we have to go through the process," he said at the time.

The White House announced Monday that it was withdrawing the nomination, but gave no reason for the move.
