LA Airport Worker Arrested For Dry Ice Explosion

Incidents Occurred Sunday And Monday At KLAX

An airport ground services worker has been arrested in connection with two dry ice incidents at Los Angeles International Airport. The worker is being held on $1 million bond on one charge of possession of an explosive or destructive device near an aircraft.

The worker, who has been identified as 28-year-old Dicarlo Bennett, allegedly put dry ice in plastic bottles and placed them in areas that would require an employee badge to access. One exploded in an employee restroom Sunday, according to a report from CNN. Two other plastic bottles containing dry ice were discovered and disabled before they exploded Monday in the Tom Bradley International Terminal, according to the report.

The explosion forced a brief shutdown and evacuation of Terminal 2 at KLAX.

No further information about the subject or a possible motive has been released by Los Angeles Police. Airport spokeswoman Nancy Sue Castles said she would be making a further statement in the future as to whether Bennett was a current or former employee of the ground services company at KLAX.
