Beechcraft Plant Damaged By Nitrogen Gas Explosion

Eleven People Were Taken To The Hospital, No Fatalities

The Beechcraft Plant 3 was damaged by a nitrogen gas explosion Friday morning after the 3-inch gas line ruptured.

CNN reports that there were multiple injuries but no fatalities associated with the blast. Eleven people were taken to a hospital in Wichita, according to Sedgwick County EMS Director Dr. John Gallagher. Four others were treated at the scene. All employees and contractors have been accounted for, according to Textron spokeswoman Stephanie Harder.

Sedgwick County Fire Deputy Chief Daniel Wegner said the number of injuries could have been much higher, but the plant was closed for the holiday season.

The building is being inspected for structural integrity, according to Wegner.

The plant is where Textron conducts composites manufacturing and experimental aircraft fabrication, according to Harder.
