Crash Claims Life of Airshow Performer Tim Nelson

CASA Saeta HA200 crashed after takeoff from Pueblo Memorial

ANN has just confirmed a report that an aviation accident has claimed the life of budding airshow performer Tim Nelson, of Pueblo, Colorado. Nelson was departing Pueblo Memorial Airport at approximately 7:40 AM. His partner Christi Lightcap was photographing his takeoff from the ground when Nelson crashed just south of the runway while turning south.

ANN ANN reader who witnessed the accident reported that it sounded as if the aircraft was developing full power throughout the short flight and up until impact. He described the aircraft's final maneuver as a "very tight turn that continued until it rolled over (to the left) and impacted the ground."

The aircraft burned on impact, and the Pueblo police department confirmed that there was a fatality. A local pilot noted that Nelson had recently earned an LOA in the aircraft within the last few months and was looking forward to campaigning the aircraft on the airshow circuit. The CASA Saeta HA-200 has been acquired with his partner, Ms. Lightcap, and was preparing for a summer of airshow exhibitions.
