General Electric’s GEnx Engines Hit 50 Million Hours

Dreamliner Engine Alone Accounts for 32 Million Flight Hours Since 2012

GE Aerospace’s GEnx engine family hit a milestone this year, with the 50-million mark passed faster than ever “for a commercial widebody engine”.

While that niche is understandably small, it’s still a point of pride for the brand, when the GEnx-1B’s entry into service stands at just over 10 years ago. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has been the standard bearer for the type, racking up 32 million hours alone. The GEnx-2B has seen 18 million hours since its entry into service in 2011 on the 747-8. Today, the engine family serves more than 70 operators, with 450,000 flight hours added to the logbooks every month. To date, the family has nearly 3,000 engines in service, with an extensive backlog.

“We are thrilled with the performance and staying power of the GEnx engine,” said Dave Kircher, general manager for the GEnx program at GE Aerospace. “We appreciate all of our valued customers for helping the GEnx engine hit this milestone and look forward to the next 50 million hours of distinguished performance with operators around the world.”
