AeroSports Update: One-Of-A-Kind Acro Airplane Up For Sale

The Purpose-Built Airshow Airplane With More Power Than Weight, Called The Turbine Toucan, Is On The Market

The Turbine Toucan was designed from the ground up to be a high performance airshow airplane of unmatched capabilities. It combines the power of a turbine engine with a classic biplane airframe. Its engine sound was featured as the sound of, Dusty, the star of the Walt Disney movie, Planes. Now the plane, and the sound that goes with it, is on the market.

David Kervinen wrote on his blog, that can be found on the Turbine Toucan website, that the airplane is now for sale. He wrote, in part, “I personally want to thank everyone who loyally followed and supported this amazing journey. The economy and personal challenges over the past few years kept us from seeing the Turbine Toucan live out the dream of corporate sponsorship and campaigning the plane globally. So with great sadness, she will be sold.”

According to their website, the Turbine Toucan was designed from a clean sheet of paper to be the highest performance biplane in history with the highest thrust-to-weight ratio of any civilian aircraft. With 1.5:1 thrust-to-weight ratio, and its ability to accelerate vertically, it is a paradigm shift in the way aerobatics can be flown.

It is claimed to be the only propeller driven aircraft with a better than one-to-one power-to-weight ratio which leads to spectacular vertical flight capabilities. Full span ailerons allowing enough control that it’s claimed to be able to hover in flight.

According to Kervinen, “We have kept the aircraft out of the view of the general public so when it hits the air to perform with its new owner, it will be a fresh, unseen experience for all to enjoy.”
