Border Patrol Agents Stop UltraLight Smuggling Attempt

145.5 Pounds Of Methamphetamine Captured, With An Estimated Street Value Of $327,375

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calexico Station seize methamphetamine in an Ultralight Aircraft smuggling attempt on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:15 a.m., when Border Patrol agents observed an Ultralight Aircraft flying at a low altitude west of Highway 111 and south of Jasper Road.

Agents responded to the area and located a white duffle bag and a metal basket on a field road 200 yards south of Jasper Rd. Inside the duffle bag, agents discovered 26 clear plastic containers containing a white crystal like substance. Agents then transported the basket, the duffle bag, and all of its contents to the Calexico Border Patrol Station for further processing.

At the station, agents utilized a Narcotics Identifying Kit to test the content of the containers. The content tested positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine. The total weight of the methamphetamine was 145.5 pounds with an estimated street value of $327,375.

The narcotic packages were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
