NY Court Upholds Injunction Preserving Public Access to East Hampton Town Airport

The New York State Supreme Court's Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department, has upheld a court injunction preserving public access to East Hampton Town Airport (JPX) in New York. The decision follows an attempt by the town of East Hampton to limit operations at the airport, which was found to be in non-compliance with the Airport Noise and Capacity Act of 1990 (ANCA). In May 2022, town officials sought to close the former East Hampton Airport (HTO) and open a new private-use airport with mandatory curfews and other restrictions. About 100 To 150 Ft Above Ground Level The Engine “Went Silent”

On April 2, 2024, at 1038 eastern daylight time, an experimental amateur-built Merlin Lite motorglider, N622PC, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at the South Lakeland Airport (X49), Mulberry, Florida. The private pilot sustained fatal injuries. The motorglider was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. A witness, who was outside his home along the runway at X49, reported seeing the motorglider taxi past towards the end of the runway, and noted nothing sounded out of the ordinary. He heard the motorglider begin its takeoff roll, and observed it depart.

During Initial Takeoff Climb, The Airplane Encountered Windshear

Analysis: The pilot stated that during initial takeoff climb, the airplane encountered windshear. He was unable to regain control and the airplane touched down hard on the paved runway. The airplane then veered off to the left of the runway and came to rest with the right main and nose landing gear separated from the fuselage. As a result of the impact, the spar sustained substantial damage. The pilot reported no pre impact mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation. The pilot did not submit the National Transportation Safety Board Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident/Incident Report Form 6120.1.
