Airborne 07.06.18: SureFly @OSH18, D.B. Cooper ID'ed?, USAF Cancels Eval

Workhorse Group’s SureFly Multi-Copter is scheduled to fly on Tuesday, July 24 during the Innovations Day session at the EAA AirVenture fly-in at Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The manned flight will take place with an all-electric SureFly test vehicle from 3:03 to 3:08 p.m. Central Time, during the event's daily airshow. "We are thrilled to fly this year at EAA AirVenture after introducing SureFly for the first time at last year's event," said Steve Burns, CEO of Workhorse Group. "As we work with the FAA through the Type Certification process, we appreciate the opportunity to publicly demonstrate our exciting progress at the World's Greatest Air Celebration." A message sent to "The Portland Oregonian Newspaper" in 1972 contained a coded message that cold case investigators say has led to the identification of D.B. Cooper. The investigators say that the man who famously hijacked a Northwest Orient Boeing 727 in 1971 demanding $200,000 was Vietnam veteran Robert Rackstraw. He has long been a suspect in the skyjacking. A senior U.S. Air Force official says it has suspended indefinitely the flying portion of its light-attack evaluation program following an accident which resulted in the fatal injury of a pilot. But Lt. Gen. Arnold Bunch, the Air Force’s top uniformed acquisition official, insisted that the experiment will continue without further flying, and in the event that the Pentagon decides to move forward with the Light-Attack program, the Air Force will be ready to put out and RFP by the end of the year. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
