Jobless Pilot Auctions Off Old Uniform

Selling To "Make Ends Meet"

An enterprising New Zealand pilot may be out of a job right now, but he's not at a loss for ideas on how to raise some needed cash.

To that end, the unidentified pilot for recently-defunct Origin Pacific has put his uniform on a local auction site called Trade Me. He's advertising the uniform -- which comes with matching shirt and tie -- as "a rare piece of Kiwi aviation history," and says he's selling the uniform to "make ends meet this week."

So far, the bidding is up to $150 for the uniform... which was "lovingly drycleaned for one last time before its unfortunate retirement"... and the bidding doesn't end until Sunday.

If you want the uniform, prepare to ante up some cash... and perhaps be prepared for a call from the airline, which went belly-up last Thursday... but still maintains the uniform is company property.

Then again, as Origin Pacific passenger services general manager David Collier said to the Nelson Mail... even though the pilot probably shouldn't be selling it... considering everything else the airline is going through right now, getting the uniform back is likely not a top priority.

But we feel there also something else to consider -- given the fact that security is at the forefront of everyone's thoughts right now... just how wise is it to be selling an authentic pilot's uniform to the highest bidder?
