Two Lost In British Puma Downing

10 Injured In Crash Of Army Helicopter

News reports state two people were killed, and 10 injured after a British Army Puma helicopter went down in northern England Wednesday night.

Reuters reports the Royal Air Force helicopter was transporting a crew of three, and nine army personnel when it came down in a wooded area near
Catterick Garrison military base in North Yorkshire.

"Two fatalities have been confirmed at the scene," a North Yorkshire Police spokesman said. There was no fire at the accident site.

Witnesses said the helo, from 33 Squadron, RAF (Royal Air Force) Benson, made unusual noises on takeoff.

"It sounded like the engine was misfiring or something -- it was making a hell of a racket," witness Andrew Pavey told the BBC.

Authorities haven't released a possible cause of the accident.
