Oregon Man Admits To Shooting Down Drone

Charged With A Class C Felony For His Actions

After he shot down a drone valued at about $1,000 at Hover Ponds Recreation Area in Oregon, 33-year-old Christopher David Grindstaff of Central Point, OR saw photos of the aircraft and its owner on Facebook, and turned himself in to the Jackson County (OR) Sheriff's Office.

Television station KOIN reports that the aircraft owner reported the incident to police last Tuesday. He was shooting video in the recreation area, and provided footage to authorities showing Grindstaff shooting at the drone standing next to his vehicle.

The weapon used was a high-velocity air rifle firing .177 caliber pellets.

Grindstaff was booked on a charge of criminal mischief, a Class C felony.

The case has been referred to the Jackson County District Attorney for prosecution, and will also be sent to the FAA for review.
