ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief Jim Campbell met with Jim Shafer of Power Flow Exhaust Systems at EAA AirVenture 2013.
Power Flow Systems specializes in producing tuned exhaust system for a variety of engine and airplane installation combinations. Shafer points out that most exhaust systems are designed to get rid of the exhaust gas, and that’s about all they do. Power Flow changes that by tuning the exhaust system which increases efficiency and horsepower.
Power Flow Systems got its start in 1999 by adapting exhaust technology from racing cars and racing motorcycles to airplanes. Power Flow develops an STC for various aircraft makes and models so they can be installed on type certificated planes. The exhaust systems are then custom-made and fitted for easy installation by a local mechanic. Campbell asked Shafer just how they get that much extra horsepower out of the exhaust system, and Shafer explains it all. If you want to see how it works take a look at the video.
