Aero-News: Quote of the Day
ANN's Quote of the Day usually derives
from current news, though we reserve the right to pick quotes out
of history that have a bearing on the day's events and
issues.
Sometimes, you'll find them timely and in keeping with the
content of the day's news... and sometimes, they'll just be
thought-provoking.
Reader suggestions and comments are welcome... and if
particularly intriguing, timely, or poignant, may themselves
become future Quotes of the Day.
Let us hear from you, folks!
Aero-News Quote of the Day
"So... there you have it... no NTSB evidence of an
engine failure, a pilot flying at very low altitude under a low
ceiling and a steep turn to head back to a runway that could not
have been all that easy to find in light of the meteorological
issues, followed by the NTSB's determination of a stall/spin... and
TCM gets to pay $4 million dollars. Is there any doubt as to why
aviation continues to be so expensive and embattled when judgments
like this are rendered with (apparently) little or no
authoritative/supporting evidence? Hmmmmm... "
Source: ANN E-I-C, Jim Campbell's, summary
of a story that puzzled all of us at ANN... where a $4 million
judgment was levied against engine manufacturer Teledyne
Continental Motors despite an NTSB Probable Cause ruling that
specifically laid the cause to a stall/spin induced by pilot error,
and where no evidence was found of an engine failure.
