Three Receive Master Instructor Designation In March

Program Approved By FAA As Alternate Means Of Renewing CFI Certificates

Three instructors renewed their Master Instructor designation in the month of March, while one was granted "Master Emeritus" status.

Master Instructors LLC said in a news release that all were accredited as Masters by Master Instructors LLC, the international Master Instructor accrediting authority.

Professional aviation educators who earned or renewed their "Master" title during March 2016 are:

John Jamieson Dahl, Master CFI, Salina, KS

John J Dahl, a 1st-time Master and SAFE member, recently earned his Master CFI accreditation online. John is a flight and ground instructor as well as an aviation classroom instructor at Kansas State University's College of Technology and Aviation  at Salina Municipal Airport (SLN). He specializes in human factors, mountain flying, and high altitude operations as well as biweekly CFI mentoring meetings while also serving as a Women's Air Race Classic team advisor
.

Andrew Dow, a 1st-time MAE and SAFE member, recently earned his Master Aviation Educator (MAE) accreditation online. Andy is an assistant professor of aviation as well as the aviation program coordinator in Quincy University's aviation degree program at Quincy Regional Airport (UIN).  Additionally, he serves the chief 141 flight instructor and chief 135 charter pilot with Great River Aviation and is a FAASTeam representative in the FAA's Springfield FSDO area.

David H Faile Jr, a 10-time Master and a charter member of SAFE, was recently granted Master Instructor Emeritus (MIE) status in recognition of his many years of commitment to excellence, professional growth, service to the aviation community, and quality aviation education.  David is an AOPA Airport Support Network (ASN) representative, a FAASTeam representative in the Windsor Locks FSDO area, and the holder of the FAA's Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award.  The 1999 National CFI of the Year, David instructs at Bridgeport's Sikorsky Airport (BDR).

Michael J Elliott, a 2-time Master and SAFE member, recently renewed his Master CFI accreditation online. Mike is an independent flight instructor who teaches nationally as well as at Clearwater Air Park (CLW) where he specializes in Mooney transition training.  The founder of Florida's Mooney Summit, he also serves as an Airport Support Network (ASN) volunteer at Hidden Lake Airport (FA40) as well as a FAASTeam representative in the FAA's Birmingham FSDO area.

Many of the most recent National Flight Instructors of the Year or National FAASTeam Representatives of the Year were Master CFIs. In addition, the FAA has approved the accreditation as an alternate means for CFIs to renew their flight instructor certificates.
